Training options

A note from Wendy…

Most people say that the training helps them get the most out of the books and as author I’m keen to do what I can to help as many children as possible do as well as they can with them. So I have designed a few different training options below that I hope will suit all budgets and make the training more accessible. With all of the new options you will receive an attendance certificate to show that you have received approved training with the author. Please note that the only approved training is that provided via Wendy’s website as listed below.

Training in an afternoon

This session combines two practical lectures at your school/health clinic and can be on any programme from the topic list above. It is suitable for groups of up to 15 people and can be in an afternoon or late afternoon/early evening if you prefer an after school slot. You will need to provide a laptop and data projector/smartboard. Subject to location and availability. Click here for prices.

Paired/trio training

These short day courses are ideal for teachers, teaching assistants, speech-language therapists, SLT assistants, social workers and/or educational psychologists who work together in the same school or team. The courses can also be useful for professionals in a management role to consider how they can take the programme forward over time. Wendy will take you through the nuts and bolts of the programme to help you get the most from it and to see its potential, with lots of practical demonstration and plenty of opportunity to talk about the children you work with. A school or department can book a course for one or two pairs and the 2nd person in the pair attends half-price. The feedback we have received for this training has been excellent and it is therefore recommended – we hope the half price offer for the 2nd place will help make this training accessible for all – even those on a tight budget.

When and Where: All paired training is held at Wendy’s office in Cranleigh. We are approximately 20 minutes from the A3 and 15 minutes from Guildford station (on the mainline from Waterloo). We have also noticed recently an increase in the numbers of attendees travelling by air as Cranleigh is only 35 minutes from Gatwick airport and cheap flights make this an affordable option - here we can usually time the course so that attendees don’t need to stay the night before but if needed there is an excellent B & B within walking distance. Dates are arranged to suit on receipt of funding, we guarantee to offer a choice of dates within an 8 week timescale from payment.

To apply please email orders@wendyrinaldi.com specifying your chosen topic from the topic list.

Practical Study Day: Social Communication, Social Understanding and Emotional Wellbeing

The practical study day consists of a series of practical lectures based upon Wendy ‘s work as a therapist and researcher in education with children and teenagers. It is open to SENCos, specialist teachers, educational psychologists and speech-language therapists working with children at primary and secondary school who have special needs – from those with specific needs such as ASD or specific language/learning difficulties to those with more general learning difficulties. Some of the lectures are also open to nursery staff, teaching assistants and apprentices. Please note that teaching assistants and apprentices should attend with their SENCo or mentor/Speech-Language Therapist.

The lectures include illustrations from Wendy’s published work together with ideas that teachers, health professionals and their assistants can use to develop their practice generally. Wendy demonstrates ways in which you can effectively develop pupils’ social understanding and social communication to enhance their emotional well being and mental health, as well as their learning. The focus is on pupils with special needs but Wendy includes ideas and activities that can be used with pupils who don’t have special needs but may have, or be vulnerable to, mental health problems. Topics include social communication and social understanding; friendship; self esteem; emotional understanding and communication; inference; language organisation for getting your ideas and feelings across effectively. A final lecture looks at how to help children with special needs develop a better understanding of subjects such as Maths and Science. Please email enquiries@wendyrinaldi.com for a description of lectures, dates and venues.
