INFERENCE BOOKSET
Introduction

Inference concerns how we use context to work out meanings. This may be to do with new words or phrases we haven’t come across before, how we work out which meaning is intended when there is more than one possible interpretation - or sometimes we need to work things out from what isn’t said rather than what’s said! What’s more there are different kinds of context – the other things the person says, how they say it or sometimes it’s the situational context that tell us the meaning.

Wendy has written two books on this subject – Identifying Difficulties with Inference is an assessment, based on Wendy’s doctoral research, and short enough to be used as a screening measure. Into Inference is a teaching programme. These books can be purchased together or separately – please click on the titles below for more information.
