Inference concerns how we use context to work out meanings. This may
be to do with new words or phrases we haven’t come across before,
how we work out which meaning is intended when there is more than
one possible interpretation - or sometimes we need to work things
out from what isn’t said rather than what’s said! What’s more there
are different kinds of context – the other things the person says,
how they say it or sometimes it’s the situational context that tell
us the meaning.
